Staff: Arely Olvera

Arely developed a passion for working with youth while teaching first grade, where she observed how each individual is unique and learns in their own way. She is inspired to work with Friends of the Children because of its powerful one-on-one mentorship model that truly meets children where they are. Being part of a mission that focuses on consistent, personalized support aligns with her passion for equitable education and mentorship.

Arely’s favorite part of working with the youth and families that we serve is getting to see the growth families make throughout the time she is with them. She is able to help them with any resources that they might make use of so that it may benefit them and their family.

She lives out the Friends of the Children values outside of work by having positive relationships anywhere she goes, and by prioritizing one of our core assets: hope. She shares, "having hope gives you a brighter look out on things and helps you stay positive...the youth we serve are each special in their own unique way. Every moment we spend mentoring and encouraging them could be shaping the next doctor, lawyer, entrepreneur, or visionary leader. We’re not just guiding young minds, we are helping build the future."
