Joey Cuevas named a 2024 Health-Care Hero

Earlier this year, PHOENIX Magazine asked their readers to nominate local Health-Care Heroes – caregivers, medical workers, and other behind-the-scenes professionals who “support and uplift the Valley’s collective well-being”. We are excited to share that Joey Cuevas, one of our professional mentors (“Friends”) here at Friends of the Children – Phoenix, was selected to be part of the inaugural class of 30 heroes!

Joey’s entry reads:

Dedicated to “breaking the cycle of generational poverty,” the Phoenix chapter of Friends of the Children launched a special partnership with the Roosevelt School District three years ago to provide participating students with mentors who guide them academically and socially through high school and – hopefully – into college. Cuevas is one of the program’s stars, a “reliable, supportive and proactive saint,” according to chapter founder Julie Wechsler. “He makes a difference in the lives of his youth, their caregivers and their teachers every single day.”

We are glad that Joey is being recognized for the work he does supporting youth and their families, and are so grateful for all of the heroes who we call Friends!
